Had another crack at the showy Slav in Dartford this morning. No nasty sun to make the images look harsh - however a dull grey sky meant I had no shutter speed either! You just can't win seemingly, so I had to pump the ISO up yet again. The Grebe didn't feed very much this morning, but did spent a good amount of time in the calmer water close to the western end of the small lake - mostly sheltered from the wind - not perfect reflections by any means but pretty nice nonetheless. The images made when the bird was sitting in this darker water were easily my favourite, but to be honest it's such a pleasure to see a Slav like this that I didn't really care where on the lake it was! Anyhow, a great session with this bird, much more satisfactory than the last time, the only downside being moved off (except I didn't move) by a jobsworth security guard who was very concerned for my safety in case I should follow the Grebe into the lake!
