Jack Snipe
Jack Snipe Lymnocryptes minima
Voster, Shetland
#1286
This Jack Snipe had surely just arrived on Shetland after a long-distance flight - you can tell just by looking at this bird that it is completely worn out. It took absolutely no notice of me, nor of my companions, and pottered around our feet, even walking over our hands as we sat in the grass next to it. Whilst Shetland is famed for its rare vagrants arriving from east and west, this relatively common species was the star bird during my trip, and made for an unforgettable encounter.
